Vintage Alabama-Coushatta basket crafted of pine needle and raffia grass circa 1980's

This lovely Alabama-Coushatta basket is an increasingly rare find due to the fact very few are still made by Alabama-Coushatta tribal members. Hand-made in the "old-way" this classic old basket is a perfect example of the type of basketry the Alabama-Coushatta were famous for in the later part of the 20th century.

Made entirely of fallen pine needles gathered from the reservation in East Texas pine needle baskets are an enduring art/craft legacy of the Alabama-Coushatta people.

This lovely old basket measures approximately 4.5 inches tall x 5 inches wide. Maker/Creator is unknown
