Vintage Navajo pendant with "Corn Yei" overlay artwork in sterling silver circa 1970's

This pendant is a wonderful composition of Navajo Yei deities bringing blessings to the crops of the people. Crafted in solid sterling silver by Navajo artists in the 1980's this Kokopelli pendant is large and very well made. Created in the Hopi "overlay" style this pendant is actually two distinct layers of sterling silver that have been annealed together to form a finished work.

The process of annealing requires a single piece to be the "shape" or base of the item and the second is a layer of sterling that is "cut-away" with the design. The process of annealing or soldering the two layers together is very time consuming and requires great skill and patience. With the technique of "overlay" in jewelry, there is very little room for error.

This unique one-of-a-kind Navajo Yei effigy pendant measures approximately 4.5 inches wide.

This pendant is a Navajo masterwork!
